Our drive up the coast from San Fransisco to our next destination was filled with beautiful coastal views. We stopped at this cool pillbox way up high on the top of a cliff.

Our journey North brought us to a little town called Fort Bragg, CA. Emma found this town on pinterest and asked if we could go to it on our trip because of its famous Glass Beach. Apparently many years ago, people just chucked their garbage over the cliffs and into the ocean. They cleaned it up a while ago, but all of the bits of glass had turned the beach into something amazing. Emma loves making jewelry and crafts, so she was so excited about a beach full of glass she could turn into beautiful things.

Our plan after leaving Fort Bragg was to continue up the coast and visit Eureka and the coastal redwood forest. The day we were supposed to leave, we found out that there was a major landslide that was blocking highway 101 and all traffic was being re-routed. Luckily, we hadn’t booked a place yet, so we headed inland to central California and continued our journey North. We made a couple of big hops to get out of California and into Oregon. We stopped at Shasta Dam on our way to check out their free tour of the inner workings of the dam. It was a really cool place, and we were all so excited to go for our tour, but 10 minutes before our tour started Haydn fell and scraped up his knees pretty bad. Eric took him back to the trailer to get cleaned up and we ended up missing our tour. The next one didn’t start for a couple of hours and we needed to get on the road, maybe next time!
